Coriandre is a delicate blend of rare essences. The sophisticated accord of 119 essences places it amongst the masterpieces of French perfumery, studied in fragrance schools and cited in most books on fragrances as a timeless classic.

Some enthusiastic and loyal users claim that the fragrance alone can boost their mood, magically chasing the clouds away.

Created in 1973,

Subtly long-lasting
Jean Couturier joined the exclusive world of Haute Couture in 1945, although his name remains synonymous with fragrance.

An exceptional salesman, he was recruited by several designers to launch their fragrances, including Azzaro and Yves Saint Laurent, where he became one of the founders of YSL Parfums. At that time, Jacqueline Couturier was embracing her career as a "nose" in Grasse, at the Jean Carles School.

When she presented her latest creation Coriandre to her husband, Jean Couturier resigned and together they founded their own Maison de Parfums in 1972.

When an innovation becomes a classic.

The daughter and granddaughter of perfumers, Jacqueline Couturier grew up in Grasse, the heartland of fine fragrance.

Fascinated by fragrances, she proved to be one of the most talented and few women "noses". She created innovative and original fragrances for leading fashion brands whilst remaining anonymous.

She rewrote the rule book by creating Coriandre in 1973.

She brilliantly summarized what Coriandre meant to her: "With Coriandre, I wanted to recreate the scents that defined my childhood, my mother’s subtle and delicate perfume and the captivating fragrances of rural Grasse."

In 1973, Coriandre became the first Chypre fragrance to include floral notes, particularly rose and jasmine, which are still the base of all Floral Chypre fragrances.

HISTORY
It was during a trip to Brazil in the late 1960sJean Couturier discovered malachite, the semi-precious stone whose varying shades of green make it a widely used mineral in art.

A local jeweller was using malachite to make necklaces and rings. The stone’s appearance and exceptional colour immediately appealed to Jean Couturier, who decided to use it to give Coriandre its instantly recognizable cap and packaging.

Several colours are injected simultaneously into the caps of Coriandre fragrances during the manufacturing process, making each one unique.
